  1. Overview

This qualification would be registered at level 3 on the National Qualifications Framework with an estimate of 46 credits and be expected to take approximately 8 months to complete.
This qualification is a review National Certificate in Civil Works and Services (Road Opening - Trenching) with optional strands in Electricity Supply, Gas Distribution, and Water Services currently being completed by InfraTrain New Zealand.

Excavation has been included in the reactive maintenance and new infrastructure pipelaying sector qualifications but the industry has identified the need for the Excavation and Reinstatement component to be available as a standalone option hence the development of this qualification package.

The Reactive Maintenance sector have not had a specific introductory package for individuals, this package provides this ‘first step’ while making it easy for people who have been working in other areas to transfer to this sector.

The unit standards listed below are the common package identified by the InfraTrain New Zealand Industry Advisory Group responsible for the project. The units have been considered by the combined industry advisory group for reactive maintenance and new infrastructure pipelaying sectors and feedback provided.

The core qualification has 5 compulsory units totalling 28 credits, the elective component requires a balance of 12 credits taken from the options listed.

The registered version of most units are available from the NZQA website.  Draft units have a code e.g. ER1 email us if you’d like a copies of the latest draft of these units or to be included in the consultation process for these unit standards
