  1. Overview

This is an introductory level qualification.  It will be new for the reactive maintenance sector but those involved in new pipe installations would recognise it as a review of the General Introductory Skills (GIS) qualification.  It will be registered at level 2 on the National Qualifications Framework with an estimate of 54 credits and be expected to take approximately 9 months to complete.

This qualification is a review of the National Certificate in Civil Infrastructure (General Introductory Skills) currently being completed by InfraTrain New Zealand.

The reactive maintenance and new infrastructure pipelaying sectors have not had a specific introductory package for individuals, this package provides the ‘first step’ while making it easy for people who have been working in other areas to transfer to this sector.

The National Certificate in Infrastructure Works (Level 2) reactive maintenance and new infrastructure pipelaying package is not a prerequisite to entry to a higher level qualification. If individuals can already demonstrate the knowledge and skills listed they would simply enter into the qualification that suits their learning needs.

The unit standards listed below are the common package identified by the combined industry advisory group for reactive maintenance and new infrastructure pipelaying sectors.

The core qualification has 2 compulsory units, the reactive maintenance and new infrastructure pipelaying package recommends 7 further unit standards with the balance of 32 credits taken from the options listed.
Please note there are other options available to companies and individuals but this is the recommended package.

The registered version of most units are available from the NZQA website. Unit QA1 is available on the Unit Standards Review. Some units are going through the registration process, if a unit isn't available via NZQA please email us and we will send you a copy.
